Job Description:

The Director, Sports Wagering and Interactive Gaming role requires an exceptional leader with demonstrated success at leading all aspects of sports wagering and interactive gaming operations; someone who can work both strategically and operationally; and is a proven leader that possesses sound business acumen and judgment. The Director, Sports Wagering and Interactive Gaming is skilled at identifying and helping to drive growth opportunities and achievement of financial and operational business plans. The Director, Sports Wagering and Interactive Gaming is skilled at managing multiple, competing priorities, having patience and maturity to build strategic relationships and possess an ever-present point of view towards the future. This role demonstrates an innate curiosity and ability to anticipate and adapt to innovations in sports wagering, competitive threats and changing customer needs.

The Director, Sports Wagering and Interactive Gaming is a strategic visionary in digital gaming, skilled in gaming compliance, and able to operate at a macro and micro level as San Manuel defines the future of omnichannel gaming. The director manages all aspects of the daily operations of digital gaming, with an emphasis on new business development, marketing the brand, and player acquisition and retention. As the subject matter expert, the director is responsible for identifying business and investment opportunities, evaluating various partnerships and external considerations, and making key recommendations to formulate a product vision for sports wagering and comprehensive product portfolio which leverages our strong suite of assets.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Collaborates with the SVP, Direct Investments on the business development strategy, design, and execution, providing active analytical support and assistance through the process of identifying, securing, negotiating, closing and initiating the delivery of our sports and interactive gaming products, as well as partner relationship management.

  2. Manages the P&L with oversight from the SVP, Direct Investments to ensure we deliver against a financial plan by targeting agreed KPIs covering B2B business development and B2C activity, spend, retention and reactivation, while ensuring the team maintains all products and promotions compliant and relevant to the target audience.

  3. Leads the sportsbook operations team to develop a culture of compliance, process, collaboration, industry leading performance and continuous improvement.

  4. Responsible for making recommendations surrounding trends shaping the sports betting business, our customers' future needs, and relevant competitive offerings to develop ways to solidify our position as an important player within the industry.

  5. Maintains a deep understanding of the betting market, legislative changes and trends to decide which products to pursue and ensuring their success in the market.

  6. Directs all aspects of the successful administration and execution of all activities online, in accordance with the policies and objectives established by the Tribe, to provide maximum long-term profit and return on investment(s).

  7. Identifies and recommends costs and operational efficiencies in order to enhance profitability and growth.

  8. Manages the annual operating budget within assigned areas of responsibility, including capital expenditures and improvements, with an emphasis on appropriate data points like workforce metrics, and return on investment, feasibility, etc.

  9. Supports the implementation of systems, processes and structure to ensure compliance throughout the organization with all applicable regulatory requirements, including those of the San Manuel Gaming Commission.

  10. Assumes other responsibilities, duties, tasks and assignments that contribute to the mitigation or response to public health emergencies.

  11. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.


  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Hospitality Management, Organization Development or a related field is required.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) is preferred.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of demonstrated, broad-based operational success in a Senior/Executive leadership position in the Gaming Industry with direct involvement in interactive gaming.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years in a key executive position for a Casino property.
  • Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.
  • Promotes a positive image for the Tribe within the online sports betting industry and community.
  • Must possess demonstrated leadership ability, as well as organizational and strategic agility.
  • Experience in coaching and developing employees into organizational leadership positions is critical.
  • Must possess extensive knowledge of sports betting and online gaming.
  • Must have the ability to analyze, interpret and make operational, financial and budgetary decisions based on financial and operational reports and analysis with the desired intent of driving the organization to meet and exceed business goals.
  • Knowledge of complex betting laws, regulations, and guidelines governing casino operations, tribal law and Native American Casinos.
  • Must be culturally competent and effective in a multi-cultural environment.


  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company's insurance carrier.
