Job Description:

Under the direction of the SVP of Property Marketing, the Vice President of Entertainment and Event Center Operations is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction within those respective areas. This position establishes strategic goals and oversees the planning, organizing, coordination, and direction of all activities and personnel engaged in maintaining and operating the Event Center. In adition, oversees daily operations and the booking of non-national acts for the Casino venues, and services promotional events taking place in the Event Center. The incumbent is a highly motivated and a creative self-starter with the ability to create and deliver first-class service to enterprise guests and internal colleagues. The Vice President of Entertainment and Event Center Operations is experienced in leading complex, customer-focused operations, and possesses the ability to lead a team, work collectively with other departments, as well as the desire to be "Best in Class" in all areas of oversight. Success in this position requires the ability to maximize revenues and profits for the entire property.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Oversees all aspects of daily Event Center operations, including bookings, planning, development and implementation of programs. Executes specific plans and programs for Event Center and Casino, and maintains high standards for guest services, training and development, quality assurance, energy efficiency, safety/emergency procedures, crowd control, box office management, crisis management procedures, and other areas as required.

  2. Partners with Department of Public Safety, Food and Beverage, Facilities, Environmental Services, Property Marketing, Player Development, VIP Services, Guest Services, Gaming Commission, Table Games and Slots and Shared Services Marketing departments to ensure seamless experiences for guests.

  3. Manages relationships and negotiates contracts with partners, vendors and suppliers including talent agencies, production vendors, sound and video suppliers, dcor and prop manufacturers and entertainment acts including DJ's, specialty bands, and headliner musicians & celebrity entertainers (non-Event Center), etc. for Casino venues.

Partners with San Manuel Shared Services Entertainment team to book headliner entertainment.

  1. Develops annual business strategy and plan, including directing the creation and management of the event calendar, activity schedules, and service objectives. Responsible for planning, development, administration, and execution of all financials, including preliminary budget, operating revenue, expense budgets, etc. Monitors fiscal budget, KPI's yield management of Department inventory, operations of assigned areas and marketing strategies to produce both short-term and long-term profitability. Monitors all departmental expenses and is prepared to justify expenditures in monthly variance meetings. Prepares annual Department budget.

  2. Responsible for Ticketing and Box Office operations and works in conjunction with Casino property marketing departments and ticketing platforms.

  3. Creates and supports state of the art venue in every way; ensuring all building assets are maintained, and recommending capital budget for short and long-term repairs and improvements to facility. Maintains complete knowledge of, and ensures all laws, codes, ordinance, policies, procedures, Risk Management, safety precautions, rules/regulations, and emergency procedures are followed.

  4. Mentors department leadership, serves as an expert resource, and establishes parameters that empower and develop management with authority to accomplish duties of their assigned positions. Prepares Department leadership for succession through development of key identified areas. Involved in interviewing and hiring of team members; coaching and training; planning, assigning, reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing team member complaints/concerns and resolving problems promptly.

  5. Responds accordingly to all escalated guest requests, problems, complaints and/or accidents promptly and in a courteous manner. Follows-up on outstanding issues to ensure guest satisfaction. Communicates in a clear, concise, and timely manner.

  6. Performs other duties as assigned to support efficient operation of Department.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the enterprise's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from a four year accredited college or university with major course work in business or public administration or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience; advanced degrees are a beneficial.

  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of in-depth senior-level arena or event center management with proven ability to create live show production under pressure; preference for high-volume casino, resort or entertainment environment preferred.

  • Minimum of ten (10) years in a supervisory role, directing and coaching others.

  • Proven ability to manage external vendors efficiently and effectively.

  • Previous experience with a wide variety of modern production equipment and structures, including fabrication, and digital/new technologies including video and signage.

  • Previous experience with lighting and audio-visual equipment used for headline entertainment preferred.

  • Must have significant experience in contract negotiations, live entertainment booking, event promoting and live entertainment productions.

  • Must possess keen leadership abilities, as well as organizational and strategic agility.

  • Must be able to perform effectively under significant pressure typically associated with meeting the demands and timelines of the casino and entertainment industry.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects to support multiple high-level executive positions and multiple marketing/entertainment verticals under his/her purview.

  • Analytical in his or her approach to problem solving with an emphasis on managing within a team environment focused on results.

  • Must be comfortable preparing and conducting formal presentations to executives, stakeholders and team members.

  • Extensive experience in using complex analytical support to make decisions is essential.

  • Must be able to provide first-class service that consistently exceeds guest, executive and employee expectations.

  • High level of proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is required.

  • Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.

  • A qualified candidate/employee must have and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the enterprise's insurance carrier.
