Job ID: 60135 Job Title: Professional Development Specialist Company: San Manuel Casino Location: Highland, California 92346 United States Date Posted: Apr 02, 2021 Ending Date: May 01, 2021 Type of Position: Full Time Category: Hotel Operations Job Description Under the direction of the Manager of Professional Development and Internships, the Professional Development Specialist is responsible for planning, managing and evaluating professional development and internship programs to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. The Professional Development Specialist helps to create policies, procedures, and budget tracking indicators to drive program performance, as well as identify and solve program issues. The Professional Development Specialist serves as the Human Resources (HR) department point of contact for Tribal professional development programs and periodically facilitates development opportunities. The Professional Development Specialist is assigned various projects in support of the Tribe. This position skillfully supports professional development initiatives through the development of project plans and action plans. Essential Duties & Responsibilities 1. Serves as the HR point of contact for Tribal Professional Development programs in partnership with key stakeholders and department leadership. Ensures placement of professional development candidates in suitable, relevant and engaging department. Provides a best-in-class candidate experience from intake to program completion. Compiles and maintains developmental progress reports, as needed. 2. Partners with key stakeholders on additional Tribal development initiatives in areas that require HR subject matter expertise. Maintains a current list of active and retired Tribal professional development programs within the enterprise. 3. Conducts regular check-ins with participants and departments to ensure objectives remain aligned and relevant. Answers routine and common programming questions and escalates inquiries, as needed. Conducts training and program assessments and recommends ideas for improvement on a periodic basis. 4. Assists with career development conversations for both the Tribal community and enterprise teams. Captures recommendations, which can become the foundation to formal career pathways. 5. Liaises with educational partnership associates to coordinate activities and events. Works with educational partnership associates to ensure terms of agreement are fulfilled. 6. Assists in the development or advocacy of internal developmental programs such as, but not limited to mentorships, job rotations, Global Gaming Women, Toastmasters, Tribal Administration Certificate Program (TACP), etc. 7. Researches and presents findings on various third-party developmental opportunities (e.g., Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), Franklin Covey, and Strength Finders). Remains current on professional development trends to ensure internal programs meet or exceed expectations. Performs research on ad hoc academic programs as requested. 8. Drafts functional policies and workflows with guidance from management. Develops project plans with scope definition, and action plans that include team member involvement/responsibilities. 9. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department. Requirements Education/Experience/Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Organizational Leadership, Business, or related field is required. - Minimum of three (3) years solid experience in a professional environment as an internal practitioner/business partner providing program management, internships, organizational development, or human resources expertise, including but not limited to assessment, design and delivery, and measurement. - Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above. - Mastery of MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook) is required. - Knowledge of principles, practices, and standards of program or project management is preferred. - Must be able to thrive in a rapidly changing environment with a high tolerance for ambiguity while producing organized quality work under time constraints with competing priorities. - Can successfully manage a multitude of projects and close on deliverables on time and on budget. - Is culturally mindful of and sensitive to indigenous peoples, with specific knowledge of San Manuel history, culture, values, family dynamics and governance structures, and self-sustainability vision. - Is highly skilled in the Yes, and style of communication and customer service while adept at simultaneously managing expectations and clearly communicating No, but, when appropriate. - Has an understanding of Tribal governments, including specific roles and functions of Tribal departments that support the community's development, as well as various systems used by Tribal government-based departments. - Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to articulate information in various types of correspondence including flyers, newsletters, social media posts, and e-mail, as well as create and conduct in-person or virtual presentations using various presentation media. - Can effectively manage several Level 1 priorities with poise and professionalism, while meeting all required deadlines. - Can demonstrate experience in handling confidential and sensitive information without reaction and judgement and demonstrated experience in safeguarding the same. - Possesses strong collaboration skills with the ability to build successful partnerships through influence and character with both internal and external partners. - Must exhibit a compassionate and positive attitude, show respect for others, display a passion for people, with a results-oriented approach, and ability to work independently as well as collectively. Certificates/Licenses/Registrations - At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license. - A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company's insurance carrier.
