Janitorial Equipment Mechanic

Job Description:

Reporting to the Equipment Supervisor, the Equipment Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and servicing of machines and equipment used by the department. The individual selected for this role is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repairs of department machines and equipment. Must ensure that all preventative maintenance and inspections are conducted timely to maintain and extend the useful life. The Equipment Mechanic is expected to assist in championing the goals and priorities of the Tribe in a manner that reflects and upholds the Tribal Community's vision, mission and values.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Diagnose and repair various types of janitorial machines and equipment to reduce down time for department.

  2. Dismantle machines and equipment to perform repairs, detect wear, misalignment, and other problems, including reassembling machines, make all necessary adjustments and test operations of such machines and equipment.

  3. Coordinate and request the purchase of any and all parts, tools, and supplies needed to complete all preventative maintenance and repairs on machines and equipment.

  4. Manage preventive maintenance program, to include the recordkeeping of repairs and costs, as well as maintaining the recommended scheduled maintenance.

  5. Identify, request and maintain inventory of spare parts for department machines and equipment for maintenance and repair.

  6. Maintain asset records and location(s) of all department machines and equipment, which includes participating in quarterly, semi-annual and annual audits.

  7. Recommend replacement of machines and equipment due to cost of repairs and remaining life of machines and equipment.

  8. Responsible for adhering to safety policies and procedures in performance of all repairs, while ensuring safety of equipment.

  9. Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.


  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational and experience requirements indicated above.
  • A strong technical background in diagnosing and fixing janitorial equipment and machines required.
  • Ability to read schematics and manuals, and prepare written specifications for major repairs or production of parts.
  • Ability to install, repair and maintain mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical components on equipment adhering to tag out procedures and other safety guidelines at all times.
  • Knowledge of use of mechanical and pneumatic tools, measuring equipment, automated systems and lift table.


  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company's insurance carrier.
