Job Description:
Job Summary: The Clinical Nurse-CH Spec (SSN) is classified as a
per diem employee and works less than an average of 24 hours per
week. May work in any licensed facility under Loma Linda University
Health (LLUH). Submits work schedule availability and preferred
department(s) within designated time frames. Functions in a
patient-centered care model of practice and performs the nursing
process independently. Applies theoretical concepts to clinical
practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills
with a focus in an area of specialty. Embraces new knowledge,
innovations and improvements in practice to enhance the patient
experience and clinical outcomes. Utilizes discretion and
independent judgment in applying the nursing process to the
provision of age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality
patient care. Functions in a skills mix environment and directly
supervises and delegates tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff.
Meets qualifications, licensure/certifications, and competencies as
defined in the unit/department-specific Plan for Providing Care.
Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer
service, safe patient care, and professionalism. Contributes to a
work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally
diverse workforce and patient population. May be required to serve
in shift coordinator role upon completion of shift coordinator
orientation. Performs other duties as needed.Education and
Experience: Associate's Degree in Nursing required. Bachelor of
Science in Nursing (BSN) or enrolled in BSN program preferred.
Minimum one year of clinical nursing experience in specialty area
(e.g. critical care or emergency care) required.Knowledge and
Skills: Demonstrates competencies in clinical nursing. Ability to
apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually
expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in
neighborhood of specialty. Able to read; write legibly; speak in
English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use
computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position,
e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. Troubleshoot and calibrate
patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities.
Able to: relate and communicate positively, effectively, and
professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in
following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond
courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and
collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in
English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think
critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform
basic math and statistical functions; compose written material;
manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize
workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and
prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close
attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as
necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general
conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and
distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient
care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and
written documents necessary to position; discern temperature
variances through touch.Licensures and Certifications: Active
California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic Life
Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support
(ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Neonatal
Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification as required in the
Department Plan for Providing Care and may be obtained during
orientation process.
